About Alyssa Katz
Spanish Teacher, Lawrenceville Middle School, Lawrenceville, NJ

Alyssa Katz is a Spanish teacher for 7th and 8th graders at Lawrence Middle School in Lawrenceville, NJ. The school has just completed its first year with a 1:1 program, following a year of intensive training in technology to prepare for this initiative. Alyssa has played an active role in the integration of technology into the classrooms, both in her own classroom and as a technology mentor and presenter for her colleagues. Alyssa truly understands the value of applying technology, but has not forgotten the most important aspect in education, which is leading with content. Her students are regularly given a choice in assignments, so they can show their understanding of a topic in a way that is most comfortable for them. She is also gradually allowing students to take charge in the classroom leading reviews of assignments and material. By working with technology mentor Jennifer Beine Bowden, Alyssa has learned that it is the students who should be doing the most work inside and outside of the classroom, to increase their knowledge of Spanish and to improve their skills in communication and presentation.

Alyssa has been teaching for 6 years, and is certified in Spanish K-12 in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Alyssa earned in Bachelor's Degree in 2001 in Communications from Ithaca College, and her Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Holy Family University in 2006.
